What are the advantages of graphite rods?

Graphite rod is a non-metallic product that is an essential cutting consumable before welding during the carbon arc gouging cutting process. It is made of carbon and graphite with the right binder, extruded, baked at 2200°C and then coated with a layer of copper. It is resistant to high temperatures, has excellent electrical conductivity, and is not prone to cracking. It is suitable for cutting metal into the required shape.

Graphite rod is an electric heater commonly used in high-temperature vacuum furnaces, and its operating temperature can reach 3000°C. It oxidizes slightly at high temperatures and can only be used in neutral or reducing environments with a vacuum. Its thermal expansion coefficient is small, the thermal conductivity is high, the resistivity is (8-13)10-6m, the processing function is better than SiC and MoSi2, high temperature resistance, extreme cold, extreme heat, low price.

Graphite rods are divided into natural graphite rods and artificial graphite rods. It is a crystalline carbon with a metallic luster. According to the carbon content, graphite rods are divided into high-carbon graphite rods, medium-carbon graphite rods, and low-carbon graphite rods. Graphite rods are widely used in battery electrodes, metallurgical refractory materials, chemical smoothing and sealing materials. As a functional filler for coatings, it is mainly used in fireproof coatings, anticorrosive coatings and conductive coatings. In addition, as an anti-corrosion material, graphite rod has a better anti-corrosion effect after participating in chemical pigments such as zinc yellow in the formula.

As a flame retardant filler, expanded graphite rods are interlaminar compounds of graphite rods that are chemically or electrochemically treated. The expandable graphite rod expands quickly under heating conditions, suffocating the flame and producing an expanded substance that can be isolated, delayed, or continuously transmitted by the flame. Non-flammable, non-soft, with excellent softness, surface energy and carbide layer strength.

In addition, the volume and number of swelling bodies should be correctly chosen. Trials have shown that 150 micron particles, 30% swelling rate, and 5% dose are very suitable. Therefore, graphite rods can be directly used as carbon conductive fillers, and can also be made into composite conductive fillers for conductive coatings. However, due to the presence of many graphite rods and scales, the function of the coating will become brittle, which restricts the use of the coating to a certain extent. In order to further improve the conductivity of the traveling graphite rod, the addition of graphite sheets can be effectively reduced.

Compared with impregnated graphite, graphite rods have the following characteristics:
1. The production method is simplified accordingly, and this kind of data can be used to produce graphite products with crushed graphite, which reduces the cost.
2. Low porosity, uniform arrangement structure, good permeability.
3. After molding, the shape is fine and bright, and no processing is required except for the connecting end.
4. The thermal conductivity is lower than that of impregnated graphite, and the linear expansion coefficient is higher.
5. Excellent chemical stability, thermal conductivity, electrical conductivity, heat resistance, thermal stability and high mechanical strength.
